Set up the SolarAPP permit import
SolarAPP Virtual Inspection can automatically pull permit data for your projects directly from SolarAPP. Once connected, the approved permit details appear right alongside your inspection checklist items, so your team can confirm the install matches what was permitted before an inspector reviews it. Catching mismatches early means fewer revisions and faster inspection approvals.
To connect the two, you need to create API credentials in your SolarAPP permitting portal and paste them into Virtual Inspection portal. You only need to do this once per company. Everyone in your company shares the connection.
Step 1: Create credentials in SolarAPP+
- Log in to your SolarAPP account.
- Open the account menu in the top-right corner and click Client Credentials.

- Check Enable API access if it isn't already checked. API access must be enabled before you can view or create credentials.
- Click + Create Credentials. A Credential created panel appears with your Client ID and Client Secret. Copy both now. The secret is shown only this once. It is highly recommanded to download a copy of your client ID and secret (the download link expires in 5 minutes).

Step 2: Add the credentials to Virtual Inspection
- Log in to SolaraAPP Virtual Inspection.
- Open the account menu in the top-right corner and click Integrations, or go directly to inspection.gosolarapp.org/settings/solarapp.

- Paste your Client ID and Client Secret into the fields under SolarAPP.
- Click Save credentials. Virtual Inspection verifies them with SolarAPP permitting portal when you save, so you'll know right away if something was pasted incorrectly.
That's it! Your company can now import permit data from SolarAPP when creating projects.
